The purpose of this email is:

·         To inform honey exporters and producers that from 29 November 2024, honey and other apiculture products intended for human consumption with HS code 0409, 0410, 1212, 1512 or 1702, exported to the European Union (EU) or moved from Great Britain (GB) to Northern Ireland (NI) via the red lane must be dispatched and obtained from, or prepared in, honey and apiculture establishments listed in TRACES.

·         To inform exporters and producers of the process of keeping the TRACES list up to date.

Background

Establishments which produce honey and other apiculture products must currently be registered by their local authority under assimilated Regulation 852/2004.

For consignments of honey and apiculture products intended for human consumption to be imported into the EU or moved to NI via the red lane, it is necessary that the GB establishments exporting the honey and apiculture products be included on a list held and kept up to date by the Competent Authority.

The European Commission has given a transitional period until 29 November 2024 for countries including the UK to establish such lists to facilitate a smooth transition and not disrupt trade.

After 29 November 2024, consignments originating from establishments that are not listed will be denied entry into the EU.

Note: APHA will submit the list to TRACES on 11 November and further Briefing Note will be sent to confirm once this goes live and to give further instructions to certifying officers.

·         Traders are responsible for providing correct information to their local authorities who in turn will pass the information to NCP
